The United Church of Christ was formed in 1957 through the union of the Congregational
Christian Churches and the Evangelical and Reformed Church. The roots of the
church go back to the Pilgrims of New England in 1620, German immigrants of the
early 1700's and the
1800's and the frontier revivals of the Second Great Awakening of the 1800's.
We are
not a "creedal" or "dogmatic" church. There is within our
fellowship a great diversity, for we feel that differences add to the richness
and strength of our fellowship. Each church is autonomous. Congregations decide
how they will structure themselves and how
they will minister to their local community and the world. We are also called
to be in covenantal relationship with other congregations, associations,
conferences and the larger church in order to carry out God's mission more
effectively in the world.
